How much does it cost to play GTA 6 if you don't own a PS5?
Updated 5 October 2026
Short answer: GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Thursday 19 November 2026. Buying a PS5 Slim Digital, the game and a second controller in Finland comes to about 767 €. Renting a PS5 from Tooly costs 110,99 € for a week, so even with the game bought separately you stay under 200 €.
For a lot of people, GTA 6 is the game that finally makes a console feel worth buying. Before you spend several hundred euros on hardware for one release, it's worth running the numbers on renting instead. Tooly is a self-service rental service at Iso Omena shopping centre in Matinkylä, Espoo, and the same parcel locker that holds drills and carpet cleaners also has a PlayStation 5 Slim.
When does GTA VI come out?
Rockstar Games has confirmed 19 November 2026 as the release date, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There's no PC date yet. The game has been delayed twice, but the date has held in every recent statement from Rockstar and Take-Two. For the latest, check Rockstar's official GTA VI page.
The standard PS5 edition costs 79,99 €.
What does it cost to buy everything?
We checked Finnish retail prices in early October. Depending on the shop and the model, the console alone runs from about 620 € to 660 €.

If you only play solo you can skip the second controller, which brings the cheapest route down to about 700 €. That's still a lot for a console you mainly want for one game, and a PS Plus subscription and any other games come on top.
What does a PS5 rental cost?

One thing to know up front: GTA VI is not part of PS Plus Extra, so you buy the game yourself. Since the console has a disc drive, the physical copy makes the most sense. You keep it, and once you're done you can sell it or lend it to a friend.
The maths:
A weekend (2 days) plus the game: 41,99 € + 79,99 € = 121,98 €
A week plus the game: 110,99 € + 79,99 € = 190,98 €
A week's rental with the game is about 576 € cheaper than buying the digital console, the game and a second controller. Even against the cheapest buying option, you save a little over 500 €.
Is a week enough for GTA VI?
Rockstar games are long, and nobody finishes the story in a weekend. A week gets you a long way, though, and you can extend your booking online before it ends. Extending always costs less than returning late.
Two tips that save playing time:
Connect the console to your Wi-Fi as soon as you get home. Even a disc install usually wants an update, and launch-day patches can be big.
Play on your own PlayStation account and sign out before you return the console. Cloud saves need a PS Plus subscription on your own account, so check that first if you want to pick up where you left off later.
What about playing with friends?
Worth knowing: GTA VI is single-player at launch. The PlayStation Store listing says "1 player", and Rockstar hasn't announced a date for GTA VI Online.
The second controller still earns its place. The PS Plus Extra library has plenty of couch co-op games, so the same rental can cover a proper games night too. One of you plays Vice City, and when the controller changes hands you switch to something for two.
How does PS5 rental in Espoo work?
You book online and get a PIN code by email. The parcel locker is at Iso Omena on floor -1, next to the Musti ja Mirri entrance, open every day from 6 am to midnight. Type in the code, the door opens and the carry case is waiting. When you're done, return it to the same locker.
There's no deposit and nobody to meet. Matinkylä metro station is in the same building, so it's a direct ride from Helsinki and the rest of Espoo. If you're driving, park in P2B next to the ABC charging station.
Launch week will probably be busy, so book early. Pick the console up on the evening of Thursday 19 November and a week's booking takes you to the following Thursday.
Should you buy or rent a PS5?
If you play every week and know you'll still be playing a year from now, owning a console works out cheaper in the long run. We won't pretend otherwise. But if GTA VI is basically the only reason, renting is the easier and much cheaper way into Vice City. You'll also find out whether you'd actually play enough to make buying worth it.
Full specs and what's in the case are on the PS5 rental page. Pickup, returns and extending a booking are covered in Tooly's FAQ.
FAQ
Is GTA VI included in the PS5 rental?
No. GTA VI isn't part of PS Plus Extra, so you buy the game separately. The disc version works in the rental console straight away.
Can I play a digital copy of GTA VI on the rental console?
Yes, if you buy it on your own PlayStation account and sign in to the console with it. The disc is more flexible, since you can sell it or pass it on.
Can two people play GTA VI on the same console?
Not at launch. It's a single-player game, and no date has been announced for GTA VI Online.
Is there a deposit for the PS5 rental?
No. You only pay the rental price.
Where do I pick up the rented PS5?
From the Tooly parcel locker at Iso Omena, Piispansilta 11, Espoo. It's on floor -1 and open every day from 6 am to midnight.
