What you can do with it

  • Drill anchor holes from 5 to 14 mm for shelf brackets, TV mounts and kitchen units
  • Chisel old tiles off a bathroom or kitchen wall
  • Cut a channel in plaster or concrete for cable or pipe
  • Break out mortar, a tile bed or a small concrete plinth
  • Reach deep fixings with the long bits, which run up to 260 mm overall
  • Drill the pilot holes for frame fixings that a standard-length bit cannot reach

Which piece for which job: The four chisels are each shaped for something different. The point chisel puts all the force on one spot, which is how you start breaking something out. The gouge cuts a channel with a curved floor, right for running cable or pipe through plaster. The two flat chisels are for surfaces: the 20 mm one for detail work and mortar joints, the 40 mm one for getting under tiles and lifting them in sheets instead of shards.

For the bits, match the size to the wall plug rather than to the screw. A 6 mm plug wants a 6 mm hole, and the tips are brazed carbide, so they cut masonry rather than polish it.

How SDS+ drill and chisel set rental works

  • Add it to your booking when you reserve the rotary hammer.
  • PINs arrive by email. Open the locker at Iso Omena and take out both cases.
  • Push the bit or chisel into the SDS-plus chuck until it clicks. No chuck key, no spanner. For chiselling, lock the chisel in position with the function selector on the hammer before you start.
  • Put every piece back in the metal case and return the case to the same locker.

What is in the case

  • 10 SDS+ masonry drill bits, 5 to 14 mm, in four lengths from 110 to 260 mm
  • Point chisel
  • Gouge chisel
  • Flat chisel, 20 x 250 mm
  • Flat chisel, 40 x 250 mm
  • Metal carry case with quick-release latches

What is not included: Anything above 14 mm. If the job needs a larger anchor or a core, bring your own SDS+ bit.

And this set will not fit the cordless drill. That machine takes round-shank bits, and the 128-piece drill bit and wall plug set at 2,99 € a day is the one you want there.

A note on carbide: Masonry bits do not last forever. A carbide tip that has been through a few walls stops cutting and starts skating, and at that point you are pressing harder, cooking the tip and getting nowhere. Ours get checked between rentals, which is most of what you are paying for when you rent rather than dig an old set out of a drawer.

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does it cost to rent an SDS+ drill and chisel set? From 2,99 € for six hours or 4,99 € for a full day, picked up from the same smart locker as the rotary hammer at Iso Omena in Espoo. No deposit.
  • Will it fit my own rotary hammer? If your machine has an SDS-plus chuck, yes. SDS-plus is a standard fitting, so it is not tied to any one brand. SDS-max machines take a bigger shank and this set will not fit those.
  • Will it fit an ordinary drill? No. An SDS-plus shank has slots cut into it and only locks into an SDS chuck. For a normal drill, rent the 128-piece drill bit and wall plug set instead.
  • What size hole do I need? Match the bit to the wall plug, not to the screw. A 6 mm plug needs a 6 mm hole, and a hole drilled slightly deeper than the plug gives the dust somewhere to go.
  • Can I keep it longer than a day? Yes, up to seven days at 23,99 €. Match it to however long you have the rotary hammer and collect both at once.

Pick-up and opening hours: The set lives in the Tooly locker on floor -1 of the Iso Omena shopping centre, Piispansilta 11, Espoo, near the Musti ja Mirri entrance. It is open every day 6-24, so you can collect it with the rotary hammer and return both together whenever you finish.
