- Fill the tank with tap water, wait four minutes, and work through the room. Everything goes back in the same locker.

The tank is the part worth understanding. It holds 0,8 l, lifts off, and refills while the machine is still hot — so a job does not stop to wait for a boiler to cool and reheat. One fill covers roughly 100 m², which is most of a flat.

Nothing else is needed. Put tap water in the tank and nothing else — no detergent, no vinegar, no descaler. Cleaning fluid in a steam boiler makes it foam and spit, and it is the one thing that will damage this machine.
Rent or buy? A machine like this costs about 300 € new. Most households give the bathroom and kitchen a proper going-over one or two times a year, and a day here is 19,99 €. So the arithmetic takes a while to turn, and in the meantime a 4-kilo appliance with nine attachments needs a cupboard. Steam cleaners are also the classic thing bought in a burst of enthusiasm, used twice, and then left to scale up in a hall cupboard. If you clean this way every month, buy one. - Do I need to buy cleaning fluid? No. Water is the whole point. Steam at 3,5 bar loosens grease and limescale on its own, and because nothing is added, nothing is left behind on the surface — which matters on a kitchen worktop or in a bathroom used by children or pets.
- How is this different from the carpet cleaner you rent? They solve different problems. The carpet cleaner sprays solution into fabric and vacuums it straight back out with the dirt, which is what a stained sofa or a car seat needs. The steam cleaner loosens dirt on hard surfaces with hot vapour and you wipe it away with a cloth — there is no extraction. Grimy bathroom, this one. Stained sofa, the carpet cleaner.
- Does it work on carpets then? It refreshes them. The carpet glider in the bag lets you run the floor nozzle over a rug to freshen the pile and knock back odours. It will not pull soaked-in dirt out of the fibres, so for that you want the carpet cleaner instead.
- Can I use it on wooden floors? Only if they are properly sealed, and test a corner out of sight first. Steam and unsealed or waxed wood do not mix — the moisture gets into the grain and lifts the finish. The same caution applies to leather and to delicate fabrics.
- Can I clean windows in winter? Warm the glass first with a gentle pass from a distance, then work closer. Steam straight onto cold glass can crack it, which in a Finnish January is a real risk rather than a theoretical one.
- How long before it is ready? Four minutes from cold. After that the tank refills while the machine is running, so a whole flat is one continuous job rather than a series of waits.
Safety: Steam leaves the nozzle hot enough to scald. The machine has a child lock on the handle and a safety valve, and neither replaces paying attention.
