Will it work on your windows?

Read this part before you book. The robot needs a square frame to push against: if the frame meets the glass at a right angle, the sensors find the edge and turn the robot around. If the frame slopes or curves gently into the glass, the robot can run straight over the edge instead of turning. The safety rope is there for exactly that, but it is not something you want to test on the fourth floor.

Minimum pane size is about 40 × 40 cm. Below that there is not enough room for it to plan a path. Standard Finnish windows with square frames are fine. Bevelled, rounded or frameless glass is not.

Not included: window cleaning liquid. Water in the tank handles ordinary dust and rain marks. For greasy glass or the salt film you get on a windy autumn, spray window cleaner onto the pane first with the bottle in the bag, then let the robot go over it.

Rent, buy, or hire a cleaner? A window cleaning service in the capital region typically works by the hour, with a call-out or car fee on top, so one visit for a flat usually lands somewhere in the region of a hundred euros - and you have to be home when they come. A full day with the robot is 14,99 €, at whatever hour suits you.

Buying is the closer call: a robot like this costs about 100 € new, so roughly seven rentals and you would be even. The honest case for renting is not really the money. It is that most homes clean windows twice a year, that this is 2 kg of cupboard space for the other 363 days, and that the pads on a rented one are clean when you collect it.
